Bathou Day celebrated at Udalguri

UDALGURI, Jan 24: Bathou Day was observed at Udalguri with enthusiasm and devotion. The Udalguri committee of All Bathou Mahasabha organized a day-long programme at Udalguri Durga Puja Mandap and observed the day. The Bathou religious community is delighted with the declaration of State holiday on Bathou Day by the Assam Government.

 The programme began with the hoisting of religious flag by Ransaigra Basumatary, the president of Udalguri committee of All Bathou Mahasabha. The tribute to the martyrs was paid by Maheswar Boro which was followed by morning prayer. The open session was presided over by Ransaigra Basumatary and Bonjar Daimari, BTC EM, iugurated the session. He urged the people to keep and promote the Bathou philosophy for the distinct cultural identity of Bodos.

 reswar rzary, Assistant Professor of Udalguri College, stressed the need of cultural flourish in the Bodo society with a glorious tradition of Bathou. The people gathered to celebrate Bathou Day enthusiastically and various devotiol and cultural performances were presented.

 Dhiren Boro, NDFB(P) chairman, Mitharam Basumatary, former BTC EM, Haliram Basumatary, retired session judge, Nilakanta Goyari, secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Rakesh Boro, chief convener of PJACBM, among others were also present on the occasion.
