LAKHIMPUR, May 24: Protest against the consecutive rise of fuel prices continues in Lakhimpur district. After the North Lakhimpur regional body of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) burnt the effigy of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding the issue on Wednesday, the Lakhimpur district unit of Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha initiated an exceptional protest programme on Thursday in North Lakhimpur town. The activists of the organization caricatured the Union government’s decision of rise in fuel prices by pulling bikes with rope on DK Road of the town. While staging the protest programme, the protesters shouted anti-government slogans demanding the fuel prices be reduced.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fooled people with the false promise of acche din four years ago. He and his government have no longer moral right to be in power under such circumstance,” said Anupam Saikia, the working president of the organization, expressing his grievances regarding the issue.
