BAYM protests NF Railway's 'anti-Assamese' attitude

From a Correspondent

Joysagar, Oct 28: Activists of Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha (BAYM) Sivasagar district committee staged a protest in Dolmukh Chariali of Sivasagar town on Friday and burnt the effigy of Union Minister of State for Railways and senior BJP leader Rajen Gohain. They protested against the alleged anti-Assamese attitude of NE Frontier Railway authorities as they were depriving local educated youths from employment in the Railway Department. BAYM alleged that NF Railway in a recent recruitment drive deprived all the local candidates of Assam and appointed a total of 135 candidates from outside of Assam. About 20,103 local candidates had applied for the posts under category GD-III and IV but not a single local candidate was selected, alleged the organization. The protesters also slammed the local BJP leaders, including Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain, for their weak role in the Indian railway sector and alleged that Assam BJP leaders had failed to solve the unemployment problem. Despite more than 20,000 local candidates applying for the posts, it is a mystery why none were selected, said BAYM leaders. They demanded a probe into the whole selection process.
