DIBRUGARH, August 20: Selection of Ashok Kumar Singh as the next Maging Director of the Rs-10,000 crore mega Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), depriving several efficient and able candidates of the State on Wednesday, has been opposed by local people in general and students and youth organizations in particular.

Protesting against the selection of Singh, General Mager of BCPL as a next successor of present MD, Prabhu th Prasad, hundreds of Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) members lodged vehement protest here raising slogans like ‘Prime Minister rendra Modi, Home Minister Rajth Singh  murdabad,’ ‘BJP to shun the anti-Assamese stand and appoint Assamese officer as Maging Director in BCPL’ and burnt the effigies of both Prime Minister rendra Modi  and Home Minister Rajth Singh

The district president of AGP, Pokon Barua, party’s central executive member, Dr Kamini Ranjan Baruah, district president of Asom Yuba Parishad, Ganesh Gogoi , and senior AGP leaders Tarath Buragohain and Dipak Saikia led the AGP rally condemning all the BJP MPs of the State in general and Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal in particular for succumbing to the Modi-led BJP government’s anti-Assamese activities. The AGP press communiqué issued by the general secretary, Pradip Duwara stated that Sonowal and other BJP MPs of the State had miserably failed to stand against any of the the anti-Assam or anti-Assamese steps taken by the BJP-led Union Government.

“After depriving Roop Sikha Saikia Bora , Fince Director of Oil India Limited (OIL) from OIL’s CMD post despite her selection by PESB, the BJP government reportedly deprived the Assamese candidates from the post of MD  in BCPL by an anti-Assamese  lobby in connivance with the present BCPL MD, Prabhu th Prasad and Fince Mager OP Taylor,” said one of the non-Assamese candidates vying for MD post of BCPL.

Irate candidates also claimed that the selection of Ashok Kumar Singh was prearranged and entire process was very calculated and precisely initiated and had perfectly been executed by a non-Assamese lobby of BCPL here  with an ulterior motive that the newly selected MD could cover up the rampant corruption, occurred during the present MD’s tenure.

However, the claim of the candidate needs a thorough investigation by a competent authority. It may be recalled that one of the general magers of BCPL, Bimal Kumar, few months back committed suicide in his quarter, located inside the BCPL complex alleging similar claim.
