BCYA decries lack of sanitation facilities

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

ITAGAR, Sept 7: The Balijan Circle Youth Association (BCYA) has expressed concern over the lack of basic sanitation facilities at Hollongi police check gate and urged the concerned departments to look into the matter.

The Association led by its president Kuru Joram, recently paid a visit to the Police Check Gate in order to take stock of the basic facilities in the inter-state boundary.

During the visit it was observed that the check gate which is under the SP Itagar, lacks the basic facilities of health and hygiene like washroom and clean drinking water supply for the passengers or commuters and compound of the said gate is all littered with poly-bags, waste papers, disposable bottles and empty cans.

“The much hyped Swachch Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) is a failure at the Police Check Gate as commuters or passengers from in and out the state halt or stop for regular Inner Line Permit (ILP) checking. And since there is no proper provision or facilities for the commuters or passengers to urite or defecate, they are forced to do the same in open despite the social stigma, etiquettes and courtesy,” lamented Joram.

“This is evident from the fact that mentioned check gate is equipped with CCTV cameras at both sides of the said gate, which makes the commuters to come under the CCTV camera footage while in act,” he added. In this regard the association has urged the Home and Urban Development department as well as the SP (Highway/Traffic) to look into the matter and do the needful for the welfare of the common commuters comprising of men, women, children and differently abled by providing provisions for community toilet, bathroom, washtub at the earliest, a press release informed.
