Agartala, April 23:  Expressing interest to enquire about the progress of the ongoing construction of the bridge over Feni river, Water Transport Minister of Bangladesh Sahajahan Khan paid a visit to the site.
India and Bangladesh have expressed interest over the construction of the bride over river Feni. Both the countries feel that once the bridge is completed it would give a big boost to the trade and business between both the countries, the minister said.
Huge enthusiasm was also witnessed among the people over the visit of the minster.
He told the reporters that after the bridge get completed and the Land Custom station is activated, residents of both sides of the border areas would be immensely benefitted.
He said the people of the hill districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh would be in an advantageous position as far as trade and commerce is concerned.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is also scheduled to visit the bridge site at Nabin Nagar area on April 30 to have an on-the-spot study of the progress of the work.
Chittagong Port is just 72 km from Sabroom, the southernmost sub-division of Tripura where the bridge is being constructed. It is expected that this bridge will make export and import of goods from North-East India using the Chittagong port easier.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the bridge in June 2015, when the former visited the neighboring country. India is bearing all the cost for the construction of the double-lane bridge and approach road in both the sides.
