Beautification process underway at Iewduh

SHILLONG, April 17: The long pending aspiration of the people of Shillong city to beautify the Iewduh market will finally see the light of the day as the construction of the two entry gates of the market has already started.

The construction of the gates is a part of the beautification project as well as to attract more customers and tourist to the market.

Earlier, Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ricky Nelson Syiem said that the much awaited beautification of the oldest and biggest market in Meghalaya is underway as the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) had floated a tender for the purpose. He, however, said the delay in the beautification of the market might be because of the contractor to whom the assignment was allotted. KHADC Chief PN Syiem, on October 2016, after inspecting the market assured that gates would soon be constructed at every entry and exit point into the market to reduce overcrowding at the market. He further said the two gates which are going to be constructed are located at the entrance of the market at Motphran and the other at the entrance to the tomato market.
