Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pradan Baruah wins Lakhimpur House of People Constituency

LAKHIMPUR: Incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pradan Baruah again registered his victory in the 17th parliamentary election in No. 14 Lakhimpur House of People Constituency (HPC). He defeating his nearest candidate Anil Borgohain of the Indian National Congress (INC) in this election.

According to the mandate declared on Thursday, Pradan Baruah was potent enough to secure 7,47,960 votes while Anil Borgohain could bag only 4,08,926 votes. The distribution of votes under the nine LAC fragments under Lakhimpur HPC are as follows: Naoboicha: BJP- 72,099, Congress-88815; Lakhimpur: BJP-76,080, Congress-51258; Dhakuakhana: BJP-83,502, Congress-47,091; Dhemaji: BJP-83913, Congress-59,249; Jonai: BJP-1,54,421, Congress-47,094; Majuli: BJP-54,578, Congress-21,226; Chabua; BJP-74,808, Congress-26,441; Doom-dooma: BJP-70,262, Congress-29,554 and Sadiya: BJP-78,500, Congress-38,346. The cumulative figure may vary in the last moment as the process was going on till the filing of this report and hence the Returning Officer had not officially declared the poll result of the constituency. As per source, the declaration may be delayed due to the recounting of 12 EVMs in Majuli LAC under the HPC.

A total of 11 candidates representing various political parties, including independent candidates, were in fray in Lakhimpur HPC in this parliamentary election. Besides the BJP and Congress candidates, the others are Anup Pratim Baruah of Nationalist Congress Party, Amiya Kumar Hundique of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Arup Kalita of Communist Party of India, Ubaidur Rahman of Asom Jana Marcha, Dilip Moran of Assam Dristi Party, Bhupen Narah of Voter’s Party International, Hem Kanta Miri of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) and independent candidates Ambaz Uddin and Prabhu Lal Vaisnava.
