Bhasha Shaheed Divas observed at Binkandie Ghat

Silchar, May 22: Language Martyrs’ Day or Bhasha Shaheed Divas was observed at Binkandie Ghat on last Friday. A number of well-known persolities of that area paid their rich tributes to the 11 martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of protection of Bengali language on May 19, 1961. Every year, the function is initiated and organized by Dipankar Debroy and Akash Chakraborty, who are the residents of Binkandie Ghat.

 The function was graced by the presence of Bishni Kishore Dey, teacher, social workers Gautam Debroy, Alok Debroy, Deepranjan Chakraborty, Raju Chakraborty and jourlist Gurni Singh. All the speakers of the function threw light on the events of that fateful May 19, 1961. They also urged upon the state government to take quick steps in reming Silchar railway station to Bhasha Shaheed Station and also to declare May 19 as holiday.
