Bidyalaxmi wins first Games medal

DIMORIA, Feb 6: Manipur cyclist Tourangbam Bidyalaxmi picked up the first gold medal of the 12th South Asian Games at Tapesia today. She bagged the medal in the women's 30km individual time trial fil

Altogether two cycle events were held on Friday and host India domited both the events collecting four out of six medals. Among the four medals two are gold and remaining two are silver.Tourangbam Bidyalaxmi, who is an employee of NF Railways, won the women's 30km individual time trial clocking 49 minutes 24 seconds. Her  compatriot and fellow Manipuri Elangbam Chaoba Devi finished second with the timing 49 minutes 31seconds.Sahiba Bibi of Pakistan won the bronze (50 minutes 10 seconds)

In the men's 40km individual time trial fil, Arvind Panwar bagged gold medal clocking 52 minutes and 28.seconds. His team-mate Manjeet Singh (54 minute and 1.18 seconds) and . Jaka Hemantha Kumara (55:25 sec) of Sri Lanka finished second and third respectively.

Talking to the media persons just after the race Bidualaxmi said, She is very happy to give first medal to India. “ I have tried hard to win a medal in the championship and today I am really very much Happy. I will try to continue my good performance in the coming days also.”
