Biennial session of Rongpur Xahitya Xabha held

SIVASAGAR, Dec 27: The biennial session of Rongpur Xahitya Xabha was held at the Borkotoky Kshetra, Sivasagar recently. The open session on the occasion was presided over by Manoj Borthakur, the newly-elected president of the Xabha unit for the next two years.

Speaking as the appointed speaker, Dr Diptimonta Boruah, an avid bird watcher, spoke at length about mankind’s long association with the avians and the urgent need to conserve their shrinking habitat. He also said that birds gave immense pleasure to humans and hence killing them for sport was a cruel and insensible act. Iugurating the session, Prema Gogoi, former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, said that Rongpur Xahitya Xabha was a distinguished unit among all the units of the Axam Xahitya Xabha and hence should take such steps that could arouse people’s genuine interest for literature.

Noted poet and writer Dipali Bhattacharya Barua released a poetry collection titled Astrabakra Moi Astom Daridra written by Manoj Borthakur, while Diptimoi Buragohain Gogoi, vice-president of the Zilla Xahitya Xabha released bamallika, souvenir of the Xabha unit.

Noted educationist Sirish Kumar Bhattacharjya and former secretary of Rongpur Xahitya Xabha, Hem Baruah, poet Jam Khanikar and writer Mukul th were felicitated in the meeting. The students of Fuleswari Girls’ HS School presented Siro Senehi Mur Bhasa Jani. Earlier, Nilamoni Mahanta, president of Rongpur Xahitya Xabha, unfurled the flag and Dhirendrath Bhunya offered the smriti tarpan. Secretary Uzzal Thakur spoke on the objectives and read out the secretarial report.
