Bihar Police Arrests Two on charges of Gang-Raping & Circulating Video on Social Media

Patna: Bihar Police arrested two persons on alleged rape charges in Patna District of Bihar on Tuesday. Both the accused had captured the gang rape video and later uploaded it on social media.

As per a report, one 45-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in Patna district while she was taking a bath in the River Ganga during a religious ritual in Patna's Barh area.

Officials while talking to the media said that two men, including the accomplice, were arrested.

The incident came to the light after the video was widely shared on social media late on Tuesday evening. In the video, the woman is seen pleading to the accused and asking them to consider the 'sanctity' of the Ganga, which she was addressing as 'mother'.

Local villagers alleged that when the woman reached the concerned police station to lodge her complaint against the culprits, however, the policemen refused to register the FIR.

Barh Police swung into action only after they came across the viral video of the incident.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Anand Kumar took up the case to monitor it.

Police also stated that the woman was dragged out of the river by a man named Shivpujan Mahto, a driver, and took turns to rape her along with his accomplice.

Confirming the incident, Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said they have arrested two men, identified as Mahto and Vishal, who recorded the crime.

It may further be mentioned that the Barh Police had also rescued a minor girl, whom Mahto had lured into accompanying him.
