Bihdia Marathon on April 29

GUWAHATI, April 26: North East Bihdia Marathon and State Women Mini Marathon will be held at Bihdia, Chhaygaon on April 29. Around 300 participants from the different parts of the region will take part in these two races. Addressing a media gathering at the AOA office Satyen Sarma, the chief advisor of the organizing committee and Additiol Advocate General of Assam, said that the meet carries cash award of Rs 2 lakh. First 25 runners in men section and top 10 runners in the women section will receive cash award. "The amount for men and women champions are Rs 50,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. We have decided to give cash award to maximum participants as most of them come from weaker section of the society," added Sarma.

 There will be age restriction for the women runners and only U-22 athletes will be allowed to take part in the championship. The race for male participants will kick off at 6 o'clock from Bihdia Chaturbhuj temple and would be culmited at Chhaygaon College. The media briefing was also attended by renowned intertiol athlete Tayabun Nisha, the president of the organizing committee. Nisha said, "Chhaygaon and its adjoining areas already produced many good runners. We are trying to start an athletic academy in that locality and if we are successful than I am optimistic that in the coming days we can produce many good athletes from this region."
