Bihu celebrated in Australia

JORHAT, April 19: Assam Association of Western Australia celebrated Bohag Bihu on April 18 with great enthusiasm.  The programme started with a welcome address by the president Chittaranjan Pathak, vice-president Papori Barua and general secretary Salim Barbhuya.  Chief Patron Dr Jugal Agarwalla welcomed the guests and gave a brief history of the importance of this celebration in Western Australia for the last few years by the Assamese community.  The Assamese community welcomed new members. Notably, the Assam Association of Western Australia became a registered organization with the Government of Western Australia this year and hence presented the first official Bihu function.

The highlight of the afternoon was the Bihu dance performance by the Rangdhali Dance Group lead by Papori Barua with other dancers like Dr Jully Gogoi Tiwari, Sangeeta Barooah, Prarth Hazarika, Sanghamitra Bora Kanojia, Nishtha Vashisth, Dr Apar Kahali Baruah and Syeda Sabiha Haque. Children prepared various programmes, including a speech on Bihu by Niyor Sharma.

An enthralling modern Assamese dance was performed by the Global Desi Dance Group lead by Dr Apar Kahali Baruah whereas Mithi Roy and Nistha Vashisth performed a modern fusion dance.  Joor Pathak, Addy Singh and Addy Baruah got the audience on the floor with their skits and comedy show. Harish Tiwari presented an excellent stand-up comedy show. Papori Barua, Dr Santanu Baruah and Dr Apar Kahali Baruah presented some beautiful songs. Pranjal Bora accompanied the singers on Acoustic Guitar.
