Bihu fever grips 'Land of Rising Sun'

Itagar, April 3: The Assam Cultural and Literary Society has been organizing a Bihu workshop at NERIST, near here to the much delight of the Assamese people.

The workshop, the first of its kind in the state saw 80 participants which included children and married women from all parts of the twin capital complex take active participation. Ujah Somth Borah, a famous Bihu dancer from Assam who has been to various countries of the world to promote Bihu dance was present at the venue to motivate the participants.

“Bihu means dhol and dhol means Bihu and to keep Bihu alive I keep my dhol alive,” said Borah while teaching the participating dancers to play dhol and gogo.

He further mentioned in his speech that he had selected a few dancers from the participants who would be joining him in tiol and intertiol shows.

NERIST Director, P K Das while extending his warm greetings to all present, expressed immense happiness to see the zeal of the dancers even though the rain pouring in all day to hamper the celebration.
