Bishnu Rabha Divas observed

LAKHIMPUR, June 20: Along with other parts of the State, the 49th Bishnu Rabha Divas was observed in Lakhimpur too by various organizations and institutions of the district on Wednesday. The Telahi Kamalaboria Anchalik Sakha Xahitya Xabha observed the day in a befitting manner at TK Junior College campus at Bapokhat. The programme began with a plantation drive by president Jogyonarayan Hundique and former president Sayed Ahidur Rahman. Former assistant secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha lit the earthen lamp in front of the portrait of Bishnu Prasad Rabha in addition to paying floral tribute. The public meeting, which was presided over by Jagyonarayan Hundique, began with the title song of Axam Xahitya Xabha. Niran Kumar Borah released a collection of poems composed by writer-poet Makhan Chandra Saikia. The conference of the poets and recitation of self-composed poems on Rabha’s life and ideology organized on the occasion was chaired by poet-journalist Ranjit Kakati.

A total of 20 poets of the district recited poems in the event. Librarian of OPD College and writer Atul Borah delivered a lecture on the poetry, life and philosophy of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Vocal artiste Nijara Kalita presented a Rabha Sangeet in the event where five meritorious students – Asfika Sultana, Nipa Dutta, Arparna Das, Manika Saikia and Gaurishree Dutta -were felicitated by the college authority.

The Lakhimpur district unit of AASU paid deep homage to the people’s artiste offering floral tribute to his statue in North Lakhimpur town. The organization lit earthen lamps in the town commemorating the great personality. On the other hand, the Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha celebrated the day at Bhupen Hazarika Samanyay Kshetra in association with Lilabari Sakha Xahitya Xabha. It began with the unfurling of flag by Jiten Saikia, the president of the regional body. It was followed by plantation drive, smriti tarpan and competitions among the students. The public meeting of the event was chaired by district president Sapon Kumar Dutta. A host of literary figures participated in the programme.

Biswanath Chariali: Rabha Divas was also observed at Biswanath Chariali by several organizations, including Biswanath Mahakuma Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Biswanath Chariali Sahitya Sabha and Biswanath district unit of AJYCP at Chariali HS and MP School, Binapani Natya Mandir and Biswanath Ghat, respectively. Several competitions were organized among the school children on the occasion. A public meet was held at Chariali HS and MP School with Dr Nityananda Gogoi in the chair. Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur, RP Hazarika spoke a few words in the meeting. The meeting held at Sahitya Sabha Bhavan was chaired by Kanaklata Neog.
