Bishnupriya bodies iugurate central offices

Silchar, Oct 28: In memory of Dr. Kaliprasad Sinha, renowned philosopher, the central offices of four leading Bishnupriya Manipuri organizations, Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students’ Union, Bishnupriya Manipuri Gasangram Parishad, Bishnupriya Manipuri Women Organization and Bishnupriya Manipuri Ex-Servicemen Organization was iugurated in Devashram Sanskriti Kendra complex in Chencoorie area of the town recently. Besides, for economic development and banking awareness of the community, the central office of Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Cooperative Society was formally iugurated by Rajkumar Anilkrish, chief advisor of students’ union.

 A public meeting was also held on the occasion which was presided over by Gopidas Sinha, social worker and member of Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council (BMDC). More than 200 people from the community attended the programme. Bishnuprasad Sinha, joint secretary of the governing body of Devashram Sanskriti Kendra, who was the main speaker on the occasion said Bishnupriya Manipuri has a rich cultural legacy. More awareness should be made to promote, preserve and propagate the unique cultural and linguistic traditions of the Bishnupriya community.

The government should launch more welfare schemes for the development of the Bishnupriya people. He further said that the government should launch more welfare schemes for the social uplift of the community. The unemployed and eligible youths of the community are not getting the opportunity to avail themselves of the facilities in the government schemes due to lack of awareness. He further urged upon the community to contact the four central offices in case of any grievance.

Gopidas Sinha informed the gathering that to raise awareness about the cultural traditions of the community a course will be launched shortly. Veer Kumar Sinha recited the poem ‘Punchipalaitoi Ema’ on the occasion. In the meeting, the members took the resolution to press for demand to include the poem in diploma course syllabus. They further took the resolution to urge upon BMDC to sanction Rs.1 crore for social and cultural development of the community. A cultural programme on traditiol song and dance was also organized by the community youth on the occasion. Others who spoke on the occasion included Subol Sinha, Samir Sinha, Dipu Sinha, Gaurav Rajkumar, Rita Sinha, Labanya Kumar Sinha, Sanjiv Sinha.
