Biswath Chariali festival gets underway

TEZPUR, Dec 29: The Biswath Festival, 2015 was kicked off at Biswath Chariali on Monday.  Renowned actor Nipan Goswami iugurated the festival. Speaking on the occasion he said, “Biswath Chariali, better known as Gupta Kashi, has potentialities for development as a tourist spot.”

He expressed hope that the concerned agencies would come forward in this respect. The 4th edition of Biswath Festival got under way with much pomp and gaiety at Kamalakanta Kshetra, here with flag hoisting by the SDO (C), Biswath, Pallav Gopal Jha, who is also the president of the organising committee.

The exhibition was iugurated by the Sonitpur DC, Loya Madduri. A semir was organised at the historical Gang Mou Than, Borgang, with Shobhan Chandra Goswami, Satradhikar, Kamdewal Satra, Kalabari, in the chair. Taking part as the distinguished speaker, eminent writer and thinker Mayur Borah dwelt at length the relevance of Sankardev at the present era. A new tourist spot, “Hati Depot” inside Behali Reserve Forest was declared open to the public by Subhashis Das, DFO of East Sonitpur Forest Division.
