BJP activists favour strict discipline to strengthen party

TINSUKIA, May 28: Though BJP ascended to power in State politics, it is likely to be short-lived unless it strengthens its organizatiol bases with strict party discipline, opined a section of hardcore BJP activists.

Barring few, none of the present BJP legislators who have been elected with mass public mandate are as disciplined as founder leaders like Deendayal Upadhya and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee of erstwhile Ja Sangh and Bharatiya Ja Sangh. BJP in Assam, unlike tiol level, has no hierarchal command even as it has local committees at all levels. A BJP MLA was allegedly recently asked who Deendayal Upadhya was, promptly replied that he was a person of Nepali origin from Tezpur!

During the past one decade, in the midst of changing political scerio, Tinsukia district also witnessed discontentment, intra-party clash, defiance and agitation which reached its height during the beginning of the recent assembly polls. According to some alysts, these sort of unruliness can prevail only when the leadership is not brought under the ambit of party discipline, when a district president embarks on agitation in defiance of the central committee’s decision and no action is initiated against this person by either State or central leaders, sustaibility of the party is at stake, they observed, adding further that a vast majority of present BJP leaders have attained the present status either by defection from other political parties with uprising attitude or agitation tactics  in their bygone days, thus party ideology has taken a backseat and it is not expected either from the present leadership to bell the cat. As they swept the poll, they have to sweep the defiant and unruly party workers in order to keep the party image high, the alysts maintained.

These die-hard leaders with very little support, either fincially or socially, then kept alive the Ja Sangh or BJP ideology and silently distanced themselves owing to several factors while regretting the treatment meted out to Siddhartha Bhattacharyya in the recent swearing-in ceremony. They desire that the State leaders should streamline the organizatiol base adhering to strict regulation and formulation at all levels from grassroots to State, else they apprehend that the State BJP will face same fate as AGP in the near future in State politics.
