MANGALDAI, December 24: The Darrang District Committee of BJP has strongly criticized the role of the Darrang District Congress Committee for their effort to appear as a saviour of the encroachers illegally settled in the Professiol Grazing Reserve (PGR), Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) and government land in Darrang district.

Addressing a press meet at the office of the District BJP office on Saturday afternoon, president of Darrang District Committee of BJP, Nilima Devi strongly criticized the District Congress and former minister Basanta Das and said that the Congress was defying the order issued by the Supreme Court of India and was advocating for the interest of the encroachers. “The encroachers have no religion or caste and they have no right to grab the PGR, VGR or government land. The State Government, as per the pre-poll assurance to ensure the safety and security of ‘Jati, Mati and Bheti’ and in the light of the orders passed by the apex court of the country, has conducted the eviction drive at Fuhuratoli in Sipajhar area to make the PGR free from encroachment,” said Nilima Devi firmly in the press meet.

She also thanked the district administration for conducting the eviction drive peacefully. She also made it clear that the State Government would conduct more eviction drives in the State to evict the encroachers. Taking part in the press meet, secretary of Darrang District BJP, Sewali Goswami Kalita and BJP activist Amarendra Sarma appreciated the role of both the legislator of Sipajhar and Mangaldai mely Binda Saikia and Guru Jyoti Das for raising the issue of the eviction in the floor of the State Assembly.
