BJP captures three seats in Karbi Anglong

HOWRAGHAT, May 19: The saffron party has captured three seats in the hill district of Karbi Anglong for the first time. The big win of the BJP encouraged the party workers and people and jubilation across the hill district was seen.
Congress minister Kharsing Engti lost the Howraghat LA seat. Engti was defeated by BJP candidate and former CEM, KAAC, Joyram Engleng by 6,350 votes. Joyram Engleng got 43,214 votes whereas Kharsing Engti got 36,864 votes. Likewise, son of Biren Sing Engti, MP and Congress candidate of Bokajan constituency, Klengdong Engti was defeated by BJP candidate Dr Nomal Momin who got 40,101 votes while Klengdong Engti got 35,384 votes.
Likewise, Congress lost the Diphu constituency. Former CEM, KAAC, Sum Ronghang defeated senior Congress candidate Bidya Sing Engleng by around 27,999 votes. Ronghang received 64,051 votes while Bidya Sing Engleng got 36,052 votes. HSDC candidate of Diphu constituency, Dr Jayanta Rongpi received 31,485 votes.
On the other hand, Congress maged to win only one seat. The lonely seat of West Karbi Anglong district went into the Congress’ pocket. Sitting Congress MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi defeated his nearest BJP rival Arun Terang by 9,515 votes. BJP candidate Arun Terang got 53,074 votes while Dr Mansing Terang received 62,589 votes.
