BJP cleans AGP in Sonitpur district panchayat polls

Tezpur: The counting of votes for panchayat election is on in Sonitpur district. The ruling BJP secured most of the seats in the eight LACs in the district. BJP has won 16 zila parishad seats out of 19, two Congress and counting for one seat was still in progress in the Darrang College premises.

The winning BJP candidates are Swapna Baniya in Parbotiya, Mrinal Saikia in Balipara, Jaya Das, Dekargaon, Krishna Koch, Charduar, Atul Kumar Nath, Behaguri, Ritumoni Devi, Borgaon, Mamoni Boro, Nahorbari, Dunu Tapna, Panbari, Chandika Guriya, Amiyapur, Kamal Kurmi, Missamari, Doly Surin, Phuloguri, Radha Dhanuwa Tanti, Barjuli, Domointy Tanti, Dumduma, Nomita Das, Gupteswar, Kesur Dehal, Murhadal, Poli Chutia, Borbhogiya and the two Congress candidates are Rafijuddin Ahmed, Bhumuraguri, Niru Biswas, Haleswar and Mansiri in Rangapara LAC. Counting was still going on till filing of the report. Out of 82 seats of gaon panchayat president (GPP), BJP won 68, Congress won 12, AGP won 1 and Independent won 1. Moreover, out of 82 seats of anchalik panchayat member (AP), BJP won 69, Congress won 12 and AGP won 1.
