Itagar, March 19: The BJP in Aruchal Pradesh has urged the Election Commission of India to issue necessary directives to the Deputy Commissioner of East Kameng to constitute an inquiry committee to examine and curb the alleged election malpractices in Bameng Assembly Constituency.
Highlighting some alleged malpractices like inducing voters to take bribe, threatening, invocation of divine intervention, forceful keeping of mortgage of property that are widely practiced before, during and after election in the constituency, the party in its representation to chief electoral officer here requested the ECI to issue directives to all the elected Panchayat leaders and Gaon Burahs of East Kameng to prevent recurrence of forcing the people to take oath relating to election purpose in their respective jurisdiction.
“If elections are held under such suffocating atmosphere how can we expect a free and fair election and also healthy participation of the electors,” the party said, and appealed to the ECI to create an atmosphere where every citizen of the State can participate in election without any fear and elect their representative according to their conscience.
The party took part in the all Political Party meeting held on Tuesday at CEO’s office here to discuss on the improvement in Electoral Roll- Launching of tiol Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) in the State of Aruchal Pradesh.
It strongly advocated for purification and authentication in electoral roll for healthy participation and equal opportunity of the electors during elections.
It hoped strict implementation of the programme will not only give a correct figure of electors in the state but also prevent an elector from casting his vote more than one constituency, the representation said.
