From OUR correspondent

Silchar, Oct 9: The body of Badal Saotal was filly handed over to his family members after more than a week of his gruesome death while Sajid Ahmed Barbhuiya’s body was handed over to his family members much earlier. Besides, in order to hush up the matter, the police officials had buried Badal Saotal’s body behind the morgue of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The role played by the district administration in the aftermath of the incident which happened on September 30 in Maygarh must be judicially probed. Compensation of Rs.20 lakh should be granted by the state administration to his family as Badal Saotal was the sole earning member. BJP Cachar district also demanded Rs.20 lakh for the bereaved family of Sajid Ahmed Barbhuiya.

These were among the demands raised by Cachar district BJP in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. Kaushik Rai, district BJP president said contrary to the accusations made by Congress, it has not indulged in any politics over the Maygarh incident. He criticized Ajit Singh, state minister, for maintaining a stoic silence on the issue for so long. He further demanded an explation from Ajit Singh, Rajdeep Goala and other Congress leaders why Badal Saotal’s body was not handed over after postmortem to his family members while Sajid’s body was sent to his family members?

Rai added to say Ri Saotal, the bereaved wife of Badal, had to fight against the entire administration for her diseased husband’s body. The Congress leaders did not even have the due courtesy to visit Maygarh. The BJP leaders and workers demanded the release of Mukul Saotal, Jadav Saotal and Ratan Saotal still in police custody, the family members of Badal, for performing his last rites. Rajdeep Roy, state general secretary, said that the BJP works for the welfare of all people irrespective of caste, creed and community while the Congress believes in the policy of ‘divide and rule’.

Roy said the Congress has hatched a conspiracy to polarize the society. It is trying to capture power through the backdoor by indulging in ‘vote-bank’ politics. The last few days have revealed the true colours of Congress before the people of Barak Valley. Sanjay Thakur, youth front leader, said the daily collection of tea leaves is presently 25 kg, but the daily wages have not been increased proportiotely.

Thakur further demanded an inquiry into the wide disparity in the wages of Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley. A labourer in Brahmaputra Valley gets Rs.115 as daily wage as compared to Rs.95 only for a labourer of this valley. Nitya Bhushan Dey, senior BJP leader, said that the BJP will launch public agitations in all the 384 mandals of the state against the misrule of the Tarun Gogoi led Congress Government. The memorandum was signed by Kaushik Rai.
