KOKRAJHAR, August 14: The Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP), Kokrajhar district committee today vehemently opposed arrests of GMC Councilor Sunita Bhilwaria and her husband accusing them to have been involved in the dismantling of Don Bosco statue at Bharalumukh in Guwahati recently. The district BJP today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Kokrajhar DC demanding release of their supporters who are in judicial custody.

In a press statement, the president of Kokrajhar district BJP Sibth Brahma said the sections which were involved against the duo were absurd and imposed without any reason against the norms of judicial process. He said that the police should had a humanitarian ture and could have restricted the arrest of the lady Councilor and her husband whose three children aged 13 years, 8 years and 5 years had no one else to look after.

He also said that all the arrested four persons were not present at the time when this unfortute incident took place at 6 am as per the disclosure of the local residents. Thus, those arrested were nowhere involved in the incident but just to harass the workers of the Bharatiya Jata Patry which seemed the obvious motive of the Bharalumukh Police to gain accolades from the ruling party.

Brahma said that an elected representative of the public, the ward Councilor of ward No. 8 of GMC Sunita Bhilwaria along-with her husband,  came for the morning walk at 6.30 am on that very day. Later on  August 8 false charges were imposed on both of them with other two cadres of the party, produced before the Magistrate and sent to jail for judicial custody for 14 days.

He said –“In fact we adore the work of honourable educationist Don Bosco, who had started a revolution in advocating and promoting quality education in Assam, which has completed 200 years of their service towards the upliftment of the citizens who were their students. We are proud to disclose that there is no field of professions where we do not find a person who has not received the education from the coveted institution called “Don Bosco School”.

The district BJP president said it was pertinent to mention that neither the party had taken any programme nor any of the party cadre was involved in this unfortute incident of dismantling the idol of Don Bosco, but, the high handedness of the Bharalumukh police shows that they had acted upon the instruction by the ruling Congress Government to arrest the party workers of BJP and entangle them in the above incident. The Kokrajhar district BJP today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through Kokrajhar DC reminding that the SDO, Guwahati circle Lakhi ndan Saharia had stated that the statue of “Don Bosco” had not been defaced or distorted but had been taken away by the Don Bosco Authorities as telecasted in certain News channel on 7th of August 2015.
