'BJP has failed on boundary issues'

SHILLONG, Feb 17:  Former Assam Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi on Saturday said that the assurance of the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) to solve the border dispute with Assam is only “false promises”. Gogoi alleged that the BJP had promised the “same thing” even to galand and Aruchal Pradesh. It may be mentioned here that Assam apart from Meghalaya also has a boundary dispute with galand and Aruchal Pradesh. “We (Congress) also want to resolve it. It is a sensitive issue and has to be solved amicably,” Gogoi said.

The former Chief Minister also said that he was happy that unlike the border dispute with galand, the row with Meghalaya has not reached the court.

Gogoi also admitted that it takes time to solve such a long pending border dispute.

It may be pointed out that, the vision document of the BJP envisages proper demarcated and undisputed borders with Assam.

“Capitalise on the unique alignment of a BJP Government at the centre, BJP governments in all the neighbouring states and a BJP government in Meghalaya to resolve the long pending boundary issues of Meghalaya,” the BJP’s vision document states.
