Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said: “People belonging to Islamic faith fast for the welfare of all and world peace. I firmly believe that such fast will strengthen fellow feeling in society. The age-old  peace and harmony  in Assam will be strengthened.” Morcha president Aowal, talking to newsmen, said: “We did hold iftar party earlier also. However, this is our first iftar party after the BJP coming to power at Dispur. The BJP-led government has laid stress on the devolpment of minorities. That Sonowal himself kept the minority portfolio with him speaks volumes of his stress on minority development.”
