LAKHIMPUR, April 25: “The interest of the common people of the nation is not secure at present. India is facing many burning challenges under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Assam is also not an exception to it. Narendra Modi and the BJP governments of the States have caused injustice to the poor people of India,” stated Ripun Borah, MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president on Wednesday while taking part in the ‘Save the Constitution Campaign’ and party workers’ meet in Lakhimpur.

Attending the programme which was organized by the Lakhimpur district unit of the party at Japisajia Rangamancha, the APCC president blew the panchayat poll bugle by appealing to the party workers to root out the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).

He lambasted the Narendra Modi and Sarbanada Sonowal-led BJP governments. “BJP government is the government of betrayal and mere slogans. Narendra Modi and the BJP could not keep the 187 electoral promises during the last four years in power at the Centre. Modi is ruling the nation with slogans like ‘Sabka sath, sabka bikash’ and ‘Beti bachao, beti padhao’. But the common people of the nation have not experienced the real execution of these much-hyped slogans,” the APCC president stated.

“BJP governments are only safeguarding the interest of the corporates, not that of the common people. The very foundation of the Indian economy has collapsed due demonetization. Now ATMs are empty and price hike has cause immense misery to the common people. The women are not safe. At least 3,000 women were sexually assaulted, including nine minor girls who were killed after being raped under the Modi government’s rule. Involvement of BJP MLA in rape of minor girl was also alleged. Around 10,000 farmers, 2,500 each year, committed suicide in the last four years. The BJP government is adopting discriminating politics by standing with the Hindu Bangladeshis as per the instruction of RSS. It is also against the people of reserved category,” he added further.

Borah said that only the Congress party had made supreme sacrifice for the nation since the freedom movement. “BJP has not contributed to the nation’s uplift but its parent organization RSS assassinated Mahatma Gandhi,” he said. Borah appealed to the party workers and the people to strengthen the ‘hand’ of the Congress with a view to redeem the nation as well as the State from the autocratic rule of the BJP, alleging that the ruling party had killed the democratic principles.

On the other hand, chairing the programme, district president of the party, Dr. Joy Prakash Das in his welcome address slammed Sarbananda Sonowal and Rajnath Singh’s u-turn on the big dam and other major burning issues related to the State. Bhupen Borah, the secretary of All India Congress Committee, criticized Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, alleging that despite his zero-tolerance attitude towards corruption, he was safeguarding Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Louis Berger scam and Ranjit Dutta who took bribe as alleged by MP RP Sarmah.
