BJP launches peace campaign in Tripura

AGARTALA, Feb 27: The Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) has launched a statewide campaign to spread message of peace carrying an urn filled with ashes collected from a special Shanti Yognya conducted at Gandachera, where a local leader of the party, Chan Mohon Tripura was brutally murdered allegedly by CPI (M) supporters on December 26.

The yognya was conducted on February 23 in the play ground of the Gandachera HS School where party executives from all the 60-mandlas (each assembly constituency constitute one mandal) were present.

After the yognya was over, the BJP state president Biplab Deb, vice-president Subal Bhowmik and state prabhari Sunil Deo Dhar handed over urns filled with ashes collected from the yag to take it to their respective mandals along with message of peace.

Biplab Deb, state president of the party said the CPI (M) has created an atmosphere of fear across the state and the Shanti Yag was organized to free people from this fear psychosis. He said party workers will visit different parts of the state with this ash filled urns for seven days and campaign in favour of peace.

On March 3 they will organise civil disobedience in every mandal and the movement will culmite in a central rally at Agartala on March 10.

Chan Mohon, the president of the Raima Mandal Committee of the BJP’s youth wing, was brutally killed on December 26 at Gandachera under Dhalai district. Though FIR was filed against some accused, police have so far arrest only one of them.  BJP rejected the police claim that the accused are absconding and said they are intentiolly not arresting them. The party also demanded a CBI enquiry into the incident.
