BJP MP moves privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, May 8: A Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) member of parliament on Friday moved a notice of privilege against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Kirit Somaiya, the MP from Mumbai-North-East, requested the speaker during question hour to allow him to speak on the notice given by him, referring to Gandhi’s remarks in the house on Thursday attacking Prime Minister rendra Modi.

Gandhi had said Modi was playing “vendetta politics” by scrapping a proposed food park in Amethi, his (Gandhi’s) parliamentary constituency. Though not much could be heard during the din, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked Somaiya not to speak in the house. She said she would look into the matter later on.

Somaiya and some other BJP members were then heard raising slogans demanding an apology from Gandhi, who was not present in the house. As slogans and counter-slogans continued, the speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes at 11.15 a.m. Somaiya later told IANS over the phone that the decision not to go ahead with the project was taken by the company which was expected to mage the park, and not the government. “I have moved a privilege notice since Rahul Gandhi is misleading the house,” he said.
