Shillong, Feb 2: The Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) released the mes of candidates for 45 Assembly segments on Friday, leaving little surprise in the selection of candidates. Prominent among them are bigwig MLAs of the last House – Alexander L Hek, Sanbor Shullai, Robinus Syngkon and Justine Dkhar. The others include former legislators  JA Lyngdoh, Draison Kharshiing, RL Tarig, PW Khongjee, Billy Kid Sangma ,KC Boro and JM Marak. All these former MLAs also happened to be ministers at one point of time under different regimes.

“The prominent mes along with rest have been picked up on the basis of the ground work calculations carried at the State and Central levels,” said State BJP vice-president David Kharsati during an interaction with The Sentinel on Friday.

Stating that the decision to nomite the candidates is based on the winning factor, Kharsati said, “The choice of the candidates is also based on the voice of the 60 per cent from the State, and the 40 per cent is based on the central leadership’s survey. There is total unimity in our collective stand, and there are no differences on this at all.” He allayed fears that some of those who have been denied party tickets may ruin the party’s prospects in certain constituencies. However, he had a rider that certain decisions may not go down well especially with the aspirants and functiories who had switched allegiance to the party for certain political expedience.

The BJP central leadership is meeting in New Delhi late Friday night to decide on candidates for another three seats.  As for a bit of simmering voice that emated within the party fold, the BJP leader downplayed it. “It’s a mere perception and all of us are united”, stated Kharsati, while negating reports that present president Shibun Lyngdoh has been sidelined by the induction of the likes of AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai.s
