BJP senior leaders visit AGP office at Ambari in Guwahati for an important meeting

Guwahati: At a time when the entire state and political parties are tagging Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) as shameless and hypocrite, on Thursday, BJP's Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh along with State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjit Dass today visited the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) office at Ambari in Guwahati.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party president Atul Bora, Working president Keshab Mahanta among others escorted them to the main head office.

Apart from Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Monoj Saikia were also present in the meeting today.

Earlier, a special meeting was held at Dispur after which three AGP ministers Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phanibhushan Choudhury moved to Janata Bhawan on March 13.

According to sources, another meeting will be held on March 15.

It has further been informed by the source that AGP will have 3 seats, BJP 10 seats while BPF will contest in 1 seat. The alliance is now targeting 12 of the total 14 seats.

The decision of the alliance has come after a late night discussion on Tuesday where the majority of the AGP leaders feel that an alliance with the BJP was the sole change of keeping the party afloat. On the other hand, the grass root level supporters felt that the regional party AGP has surrendered.

The AGP has been offered seats for Koliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri but the party wants seats in either Guwahati or Mangaldoi or a Rajya Sabha seat for the next June election.

A meeting was held at Hotel Radisson Blu between AGP and BJP in the presence of National General Secretary in-charge of Northeast, BJP Ram Madhav on Tuesday.
