Silchar, July 18: In a bid to promote and propagate Prime Minister rendra Modi’s noble scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, a Kanya Puja, worshipping of a girl child, was performed at the Itkhola BJP office in Silchar on Monday. 20 girls of 12 years of age were worshipped and given gifts by Queen Ojha, state convener, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. On this occasion were present Kabindra Purkayastha, former MP, and other frontline BJP leaders Nitya Bhushan Dey, Ramkrish Sinha.

Addressing the packed hall of the party office, Queen Ojha said, “It is important to educate girls. They should not end up working as a menial help. We should remember this that girls and women are the incartion of Goddess Durga and Kali. It was Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the great social reformer, who introduced Widow Remarriage Act and thus helped save lives of a large number of women from humiliation and death.” She further said, “The present Government has been introducing and launching various new schemes, plans and policies for the benefits of the womenfolk of our country. Women should be aware of all this and avail themselves of the facilities. BJP should be proud of itself.”

“Women in the states of West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam and galand,” continued Queen Ojha, “are highly respected in comparison with other states. It is essential to meet the principals, headmasters, parents and guardians of school going girl children so that one can check if they are attending classes or not. They should be provided with adequate tuition facilities. Competitions should be held regularly so that the girl students can participate. It will take care of their co curricular activities also.” She also laid emphasis on the various Yojas that have been launched by the Government of India for women.

In his welcome address, Nitya Bhushan Dey said that the tradition and mentality associated with it to treat a girl child a burden is not at all acceptable. “Today, women are working as pilots, fighting battles and scaling new heights. A large number of movements have also been organized for the uplift of the womenfolk of this country and the government too have taken a number of noble initiatives for them to lead a better life. Girl child is a treasure, a boon, not a burden or a bane.”

Kabindra Purkayastha said that people should not differentiate between boys or girls and such things are highly condemble. “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is indeed important in this world which is so hostile towards the womenfolk. Women are no less than men in any field. It is our responsibility to look after them. They are doing better than men in many fields,” he added to say. Dr Rajdeep Roy said that there are two aspects of the campaign – to save the girl child and to educate her. “In states like Harya, Punjab and New Delhi the birth of a girl child is not celebrated. They are cursed and treated as a burden,” said Dr Rajdeep Roy.

“On the contrary, it has been found that women are performing better than men in more than one way. Countries having the highest number of female vehicle drivers have seen less accidents than in countries where drivers are male. We will have to take care of their schooling as well as their safety and security. There are various schemes like Kanya Suraksha Yoja and others have been launched for the girls. The determition of sex of a foetus is a crime in India. This law was passed in the year 1974. No one is allowed to know the gender of the foetus. It has helped in curbing female foeticide,” Dr Rajdeep Roy added to say.
