BJP To Win 12 of 14 Lok Sabha Seats: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday asserted that the ruling alliance would win 12 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in the next month’s general elections.

An enthusiastic and confident Sarbananda Sonowal, who has already got himself engaged in the Lok Sabha election campaigns, held an interaction with the BJP workers in Barpeta district on Sunday. During the meeting Sonowal told the party workers that the people have already made up their minds to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of the country for the second time. He asked the party workers to work sincerely and dedicatedly to make the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance click in the elections. On Saturday, Sonowal participated in a joint meeting of BJP, AGP and Sanmilita Ganashakti in Dibrugarh district to draw strategies for the ensuing elections.

Talking to reporters in Barpeta on Sunday, Sarbananda Sonowal said even though his party is targeting all the 14 seats in Assam, it is sure of winning 12 seats convincingly. Responding to reports of a possible alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF, Sonowal said the Congress, which once questioned the very existence of Badaruddin Ajmal, has now surrendered before the AIUDF. “The people have now identified real faces of both the parties,” Sarbananda Sonowal said.

On other hand, speculations are doing the rounds about a possible alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF. Without directly naming the AIUDF, the Congress candidate from Mangaldoi Parliamentary constituency Bhubaneswar Kalita said the issue is under active consideration between the central and state leadership of the party and official announcement will be made in case the alliance takes shape. Kalita also said the forces that opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, must not now fight against each other.

AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal has already said if the Congress & AIUDF do not make an alliance, the BJP will gain in the ensuing elections. He dropped a broad hint about his willingness for the alliance. The AIUDF has so far named its candidates only for three Parliamentary constituencies — Barpeta, Dhubri and Karimganj.
