From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, March 30: In a staggering effort to capture the power of BTC from ruling BPF, the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) has been working relentlessly in every nook and corner of BTC chanting with all round development and good governce in the council if voted to power.

For second time, BJP State president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya on Monday campaigned in Shakti Ashram, Titaguri and Kokrajhar for BJP candidates contesting from Dotma, Fakiragram, Salakati, Debargao nd Bargaon. Bhattacharyya said the BJP would get absolute majority in the forthcoming BTC elections to form the next government. He assured that the BJP would concentrate on all-round development for the people of different communities by establishing good governce.

He said, “We will never allow a BJP representative to indulge in corruption if we come to power. Our party representatives will not involve in corrupt practices,” he said adding that the BJP had been trying to root-out corruption in the country and the BTC was not an exception. He said the NDA government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee formed the BTC for establishment of peace and stability and rapid economic development of the backward region. The NDA government worked for the development of BTC areas and provided facilities to the council leaders; he said and added that the BJP did not participate in the BTC elections in the last two terms considering that the movement leaders should be given a chance to work for the people of the region. He said the BPF had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people and instead of working for the welfare of diverse section of the society, only a section of brokers and public representatives were taking all benefits betraying the people.

Bhattacharyya said the Government of India had pumped in a lot of fund meant for developmental works but these funds were minted by a section of agents and public representatives who were now becoming wealthier and owned luxury apartments in different big cities, besides acquiring uccounted properties. He called upon the people to send good representatives for good governce. Bhattacharyya also said the BTC still did not have proper roads, well irrigation system and health centres.

BJP candidate of Fakiragram Dilip Barman said the people of his constituency did not find a good representative in the past 10 years for which the people were deprived of their due rights and privileges. He said in BTC only a section of leaders had been taking all advantages while depriving the masses. He said his victory was imminent and the BJP would form the government in BTC.

Dotma candidate from BJP Bibhuti Borgoyary said in the last 10 years, the leaders of ruling party of BTC worked to fulfil their selfish interests and development works were not at par with people’s expectation. He said the BJP for the first time, had participated in the elections to the council with a view to bring a change in the region. He alleged that the innocent Adivasi people became victims of the ill-fated conspiracy of the Congress and BPF who were trying to get political mileage out of it.

BPF candidate from Fakiragram Baktar Ali Ahmad, while talking to media persons at Mokhosa, said Fakiragram was the most backward constituency in all spheres. He said only the BPF-led BTC had been working for the all- round development of the region as their promise. He said that the people of Fakiragram constituency needed a competent leader backed by BPF to bring enormous development. He also said that one would not be able to bring spectacular development in the constituency by simply becoming an MCLA but there should be Executive Member (EM) to develop the area. He claimed that he would become EM if people made him victorious from the constituency. Replying to questions, he said the Congress was not at all a factor but the tough fight could be with the AIUDF candidate.

Meanwhile, the MP of Kokrajhar ba Kumar Sarania who is campaigning for Sonmilito Jagostiya Aikya Mancha candidate Matiur Rahman, while talking to reporters at Kaljhar in Fakiragram on Monday said the candidates of Sonmilito Jagostiya Aikya Mancha (SJAM) would sweep power in BTC as the BPF had become weak. He said they were fielding candidates in 33 seats and they would win at least 25 seats in the council election. He said the Congress and AIUDF were not factors. There would be no question of alliance as they would get majority seats. Since the common people were with the SJAM, their candidates would win everywhere.

On the stand of A Boro Suraksha Samity, Sarania said they were also working for the interest of the non-Bodo people and probably, they were likely to work to make some non-Bodo candidates win but majority of the non-Bodo people were supporting their candidates.

In the meeting, the president of AKRSU (H) Hiteswar Barman, president of ABMSU Sahabudding Ali Ahmad, general secretary Lafiqul Islam and president of BTC Bengali Youth Students’ Federation Mantu Dey were also present.
