IMPHAL April 1: Home Minister Rajth Singh, BJP president Amit Shah and some others will make a two day visit to Manipur beginning from
April 16. Party sources said that the visit is to assess the political scerio in the state and help invigorate the party which has not won a single elective post so far. But then it was disclosed that the main purpose of the visit is to ensure that the party candidates win most of the Autonomos District Council seats. The ADC elections in the 6 councils in the state will be held on April 30. BJP leaders in general and the state unit president Chaoba Thouojam have been exuding confidence for winning most of the ADC seats. This is an ambitiojs claim considering the fact that the party has no MP, MLA or and representative even in the local bodies. The party had idvertently sounded its death knell when Rajth Singh had announced that the government is working for the tion wide ban on cow slaughter. Opposition parties and the ruling Congress will make a political capital out of this pro-Hindu stance of Rajth Singh and his party. These political parties will drive the message home that Rajth and his party are against the Christians and tribals who relish beef. There will be various fantasies like how the tribal custom and tradition and food habit will be done away with by this pro-Hindu political party. Since Singh had made the public announcement reflecting the government policy he will not be able to defend himself and the government stand. Even if he resorts to double speak very few people will listen to him. Since what the NDA government is thinking is basically against the Christians and tribals in Manipur indications are that the other political parties will succeed in alieting Rajth Singh’s party from the tribals. The voters in these 6 ADCs are Christian tribals and it will have a telling effect. The stunned and shocked state leaders of the party of Rajth Singh are hoping against hope that the damaging announcement of Singh had not fallen on the common voters. Keeping their figners crossed the state unit functiories are not making any statement as yet.
In the Hiyanglan by polls the state unit BJP could not make a dent and the ruling Congress had won it. It established the fact that the Modi wave has not made a landfall in Manipur and that all what the people discern is a froth which is also trampled by the infighting among the functiories and some charges of corruptions.
