BJP's BTC unit opposes poll alliance with BPF

KOKRAJHAR, January 13: At a time when the BJP is all set to tie pre-poll pact with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) led by Hagrama Mohilary, yet the leaders of BJP of BTC region are up-in-arms to oppose the poll alliance with BPF and have decided to not cooperate. The BJP-BPF pre-poll pact is likely to be formally announced during the visit of Prime Minister rendra Modi in Kokrajhar on January 19.

A meeting of BJP of four BTC districts was held on Wednesday in Kokrajhar with BJP leader Mono Kr. Brahma, who was former BTC EM and president of Youth Wing BPF, in the chair. Hundreds of BJP supporters from four districts of the council took part in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by the general secretary of BTC region coordition committee of BJP, Sabdaram Rabha, former BTC EM and present MLA Hitesh Basumatary and other senior leaders of the district committees.

Talking to media persons on the sideline of the meeting, the BJP leader and chairperson of the meeting Mono Kr. Brahma said the leaders and supporters of BTC region BJP had objection on the pre-poll alliance with the BPF. He said the BJP workers of the region would not cooperate unless the State BJP clarified its stand. He said there had been meeting of BTC region BJP on January 8 where they resolved not to support the pre-poll pact with the BPF in BTC areas. He also demanded that the State BJP should think twice before the alliance was filized.

The general secretary of the BTC region coordition committee of the BJP, Sabdaram Rabha said the people of Assam had already rejected the BPF and the result was seen during the last Lok Sabha election held in 2014 where the BPF lost badly. He said it was people’s mandate of BJP supporters of BTC region that they would never support the alliance with BPF. He also said the State BJP must clarify its stand on the pre-poll alliance.
