BJP's Paribartan Padyatra to create awareness about 'false promises' of Congress

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Feb 20: BJP Jorhat District Committee will organize a 20-km walk ‘Paribartan Padyatra’ on Sunday which will start from Borholla and end up in Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s home stronghold of Titabor.

Taking part in the walk will be BJP State president and Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbanda Sonowal, Member of Parliament, former Minister and present BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, besides hundreds of BJP workers of the district. This was informed by former minister and BJP leader Hiten Goswami at a press meet organized by BJP Jorhat District Media Cell at the Jorhat Press Club on Saturday.

Addressing a conglomerate of media, BJP leader Hiten Goswami said, “Though the walk is being organized at an all Assam level but we have decided to give it a kick-start in Titabor of Jorhat district mainly to create awareness among the rural masses about the false promises made and a never-ending corruption list credited to the me of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who incidentally happens to represent Titabor in the State Assembly. People want change and they are confident that BJP will do much better to end corruption in the event of forming a government. We have targeted Tarun Gogoi as he is the one who is a specialist in corruption. Fake promises of a tiol Institute of Design, tiol Institute of Hotel Magement, establishment of a truck terminus have all gone into cold storage, besides the pathetic condition of JMCH and the Rs 100-crore arsenic-free water project at Titabor in shambles. False promise of pipe gas connections in 2004, corruption in the Panchayat Raj system speaks volumes of the Chief Minister’s entanglement.”

“But the greatest irony is about the rapid politicization of the police force. Law and order has deteriorated below control. Today the police have become mere puppets in the hands of the politicians. In any act of crime control, rapid interference by political leaders has crippled the police force. I would like to particularly highlight an incident that happened three years back when a goon of a political party pulled out a non-Assamese woman and two other men from a bus at ISBT in an act of kidpping. The police who arrived later in the scene, instead of lodging the goon in jail, sent the three to judicial custody. And this happened at the direct interference of a powerful political leader. The then Jorhat Superintendent of Police argued politely and spoke in favour of the goon. I actually do not blame them for they are basically a breed of spineless officers. We have apprehensions that the present government is likely to use the police force according to their needs in the upcoming assembly elections and for this we have decided to undertake the walk so as to apprise the ordiry people not to become victims of false propaganda through the use of state machinery,” he added.

Also present in today’s press meet were BJP Jorhat District Media Cell coorditor Iswar Prasan Bordoloi, BJP media cell in-charge Rituraj Konwor, BJP district president Kamakhya Mohan Das, BJP Jorhat district general secretary Surjyajyoti Choudhury and BJP state council member Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta who offered guidelines about the proposed walk and the measures adopted to complete the walk successfully through the active help of the media.
