Blast triggered at Fancy Bazaar today

Guwahati: At least 4 people were injured in a blast at MG Road, Fancy Bazaar today. The injured persons were immediately rushed to MMC hospital.

The blast occurred 200 meters from the Police Commissioners' Office. The injured persons are Kalpajyoti Talukdar, Taifuddin Ahmed, Naru Das and Binita Das.

As per latest report, DGP Kuladhar Saikia had reached the spot.“It is an unfortunate incident during this festive season. To counter further threat the security of the city will be beefed up. We didn’t get any input about the blast beforehand. If some organisation is planning an attack, it will come out eventually during the investigation. At this time it can’t be said who was behind the blast as the region has been witnessing insurgent activities from a long time,” said DGP Kuladhar Saikia.

Cabinet Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya said such an incident ahead of the much-awaited festivities is unfortunate. The forensic team is already investigating the matter and will find out the impact of the blast. The details on the incident will be stated by the DGP. On being asked about ULFA taking the responsibility of the blast, the minister says that they (ULFA) should then beg pardon for such an act. What do they want to prove by harming the innocent masses?

Meanwhile, the ULFA(I) has claimed the responsibility of the blast.
