Blood donation programme organized by Dibrugarh Blood Donors’ Forum

Dibrugarh: “There is no any substitute for blood and a gap between the demand and supply of blood is always there for the needy ones. If we don’t come forward to donate blood, then they will be in crisis for life.” This was stated by Dr. K. M. Bhagawati, President, Dibrugarh Blood Donors’ Forum as well as Principal, DHSK Commerce College, while inaugurating a blood donation programme organized at the college campus on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on Friday. “There is a need to make aware the people, particularly the young generation towards the importance of donating blood as a way of sacred humanitarian service,” he added.

Dr. KM Bhagawati is a regular blood donor and an activist of blood donation movement in Dibrugarh. He is also credited with translation of a Bengali book ‘Raktadan’ by Apurba Ghosh into Assamese with an aim of creating awareness regarding blood donation among the masses. The programme was jointly organized by ‘Suhrid—a flight for humanity’, a new social wing of the college and the ‘National Service Scheme’ unit of the institution in association with Dibrugaerh Blood Donors’ Forum. Altogether 36 students as well as teachers donated blood during the drive. Bani Kachari, Co-ordinator, Suhrid and Keshabananda Haloi, Programme Officer, College NSS unit played the vital role in organizing the humanitarian drive.
