Silchar, Aug 28: Without any controversy, the election to the 15 member board of directors of Silchar Wholesale Cooperative Society Limited was held at DNNK HS School on Sunday. In fact, it is for the first time in the history of the Society that the election usually marred by wranglings and controversies passed off without any whiff of protest or exchange of heated words. The heavy security however was in position to deal with any untoward incident. Quite significantly, while the election was on the basis of unimity, the lone SC membership for the board of director was also without any dissent or rivalry.
The entire process of election was conducted by officer on magement Debasish Mitra, returning officer Gautom Roy and assistant returning officer Sanjoy Barman. The elected board of directors took the decision to constitute the new committee with chairman within a week. The executive members and the directors also resolved to cancel the last proceedings of the annual general meeting held during the tenure of Arindam Paul, the former chairman. Questions were raised why audit was not done by competent persons or body in respect of the income and expenditure accounts of the time of Arindam Paul.
Demand was raised for constituting an high level inquiry into all the anomalies and irregularities of the previous board of directors. For lack of transparency, allotment of PDS from the office of the Deputy Commissioner was cancelled. The new board of directors would make all possible efforts to restore the supply of PDS. The newly elected members are Basudev Sharma, Swapan Kumar Dey, Binoy Bhushan Sharma, Helim Uddin Barbhuiya, Debabrata Sinha, Pramathesh Chandra Das, Anup Chauhan, Anup Kumar Singh, Rathindrath Saha, Tarun Kumar Dey, Maitraye Choudhury, Sheuly Mitra, Nimai Chandra Das (SC) and Bipul Kanti Sinha.
