Bodies of elderly aged couple recovered near river bank in Chirang, Police suspect Witch Hunting

Chirang: In a shocking incident, the bodies of an elderly aged couple was found buried in Chirang District at No 1 Aaipuwaligaon near India-Bhutan border under Runikhata Police Station on Thursday morning.

As per reports, police recovered the bodies based on input and accordingly apprehended eight miscreants in connection with the brutal murder incident.

Police also informed that as per their preliminary investigations they are suspecting it to be incident of witch hunting.

It may also be mentioned that out of the eight miscreants, one has been identified as the son of the deceased couple.

The miscreants were identified as Naren Sutradhar (son), Robin Sutradhar, Botson Sutradhar, Shibu Sutradhar, Allen Sutradhar, Denny Sutradhar, Puspa Sutradhar, Lakhan Sutradhar.

As per eyewitnesses, the couple brutally killed with a sharp weapon and their bodies were later being dragged to the nearby Aaipuwali river near India Bhutan border on the night of Uruka (on the eve of the Magh Bihu celebration).

Following the incident, a case has been registered against all the miscreants by Dadgiri Border Police on Thursday (case vide no 3/2019 under section 120(B), 147, 148, 149, 302, 201 of the Indian Penal Code).

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Superintendent of Police, Chirang District, Yuvraj Saurabh said, “We have confirmed from our sources that the son was also involved along with the other seven people in killing the old aged couple. Our sources had informed it to be a case of witch hunting; however, our investigations are on.”
