Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) sounds panchayat poll bugle

TANGLA: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ally of the ruling BJP, has geared up to fight the forthcoming panchayat polls alone in constituencies where they have majority supporters and the party will support their alliance partners - BJP and AGP - in constituencies where they do not enjoy much support. President of Bodoland People’s Front, who is also the chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Hagrama Mohilary attended a party workers’ meet at Tengabari village under Kalaigaon legislative constituency in Darrang district on Sunday.

Mohilary kicked off the event with the beat of Nagara drum. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the BPF believed in giving equal priority to every class and community of people. He also stated that the BPF had been working for peace, integrity and development in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) areas. He further stated that the BPF would field candidates in Dhubri, Gauripur, Bijni, Bilasipara, Kalaigaon and Dalgaon among others in the panchayat polls and would support the alliance partners AGP and BJP in other constituences.

The meet was presided over by Darrang chapter party president, Arun Nath and attended by Kalaigaon MLA Maheswar Baro, Executive Members of BTC, Jagadish Sarkar; Lwmshrao Daimary ; former legislators Karendra Basumatari and Rakheswar Brahma among other party workers. Nearly 1,500 people from the Congress, AGP and AIUDF joined the BPF in that meeting.
