Bokul Bon award presented to folk artiste Ajit Borah

Jorhat, Jan 27: Prominent folk artiste Ajit Borah of Gak Pukhuri, Dergaon was presented the 13th Bokul Bon Bota, 2016 at a glittering function organized by the Bokul Bon trust at Axom Xahitya Xabaha’s Radha Kanta Handique auditorium here. Samarin Bordoloi, president of the Bokul Bon Nyash, presided over the function while Suram Sarma Burah Bhokot attended as the chief guest and handed over the award comprising a memento, citation, cash and seleng sadder.

It may be mentioned that Ajit Borah is an artist with a difference. He is a regular artiste of All India Radio-Dibrugarh who sings Kamrupia Lokogeet, Diham and Borgeet. Since 1972 he was associated with Zikir Samrat Rekibuddin Ahmed and sang in over 100 CDs and played instruments like hhol, dotara, tokari, dogor, gara etc.

For his unique and sweet voice he was conferred with the title ‘Sur Silpi’ by Dhekial Moi Parijat in 2002. Since 1981 to 2014 he widely travelled to West Bengal. Cheni, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Orissa. He was also a member of CCRT selection Board.
