Bongaigaon district administration takes strict measures to curb illicit liquor

Bongaigaon: Bongaigaon district administration has started active and strict measures to curb illicit liquor in the district. From the very first day of this month, the Excise Department is continuing frequent raids against illegal distillation, storage, and sale of liquor throughout the district and seized a huge amount of stock and held total 4 persons till now in this connection.

In the raid at Dhaknabari and Taalguri area of Abhayapuri conducted by a team of Excise Department assisted by armed police personnel of Boitamari Sub-Police Station, two illicit liquor sellers were held and 300 litres of Fermented Wash and 10 litres of illicit distilled liquor were seized. In another raid executed on June 12 at B.G. Colony area of New Bongaigaon by a team of Excise Department led by Akan Bhattacharjya, Excise Inspector of district headquarter, one person was held in connection with illicit liquor selling and 20 litres of illicit liquor were seized.

Similarly, another team of Excise department from the district headquarter conducted raid at Paglasthan area and held one person with 10 litres of illicit liquor. The accused persons so far were namely Diganta Barman and Dipak Barman of Dhaknabari, Buddhiram Brahma of Nilibari and Shankar Sahani of Paglasthan . All the sellers were produced to the court and under section 53 (1)(a) A.E.( Amendment Act),2018. They were found guilty and sent to jail, stated a press release.
