Shillong, May 9: Dr Hem Chandra Wallang (1892-1984), affectionately called Dr Hem by his admirers, was known for his hardship, struggle, steel determination and dedication. On Wednesday, his granddaughter Cheryl Susan Kharsyntiew Tada released a book on him titled 'Fragrance of a Flower' which is a compilation of his writings, letters and sermons as a church leader. The book release ceremony was held at Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong in the presence of Dr Hem's family members, relatives, friends and also faculty and staff of the university.

Releasing the book, Rev Dr JF Jyrwa recalled Dr Hem and the impact that he had on his life and also how as a doctor he was an inspiration to all who met him.

Also speaking on the occasion were Cheryl Susan Kharsyntiew, the granddaughter and Dr Glenn Kharkongor, the grand-nephew of Dr Hem.

Dr Hem was born at Shora (Cherrapunji) in 1892 and was an orphan. He studied in Welsh Missionary. At an early age he was urged upon by a missionary leader to become a Church Pastor. But he continued with his struggled and got admitted to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, Assam and after completing his studies went on to become a renowned doctor in Sohra and the surrounding areas.
