SILCHAR, Feb 9: In order to protest against their exploitation by different political parties during the election time and to decide their own strategy, the people belonging to SC community of Borkhola constituency in Cachar came under one platform of ‘Borkhola SC Community Jagaran Mancha’. A one day convention of the Mancha was held on Sunday at Kaligar in which various speakers in one voice admitted how since the first general elections, they have been used as vote-bank by different political parties.
Sudhir Ranjan Das who presided over the convention endorsed the views and opinions expressed on the occasion. He regretted to note political parties make promises for uplift of the SC community and after elections they conveniently forget. No party has been exceptiol in this respect.
Significantly, activists of Congress, BJP, AIUDF and AGP were also present.
Former general secretary of BJP Borkhola mandal, Pranesh Sinha in his speech gave a call for the unification of all the people of the community. He also pointed out there has been move to divide them and even to foil the convention. He med Rumi th, present MLA of the constituency, who has been active to see that there is no unity in the community. He alleged even allurements are given by political party leaders to the innocent people to woo them.
Nibhu Das, Congress worker, in his speech claimed SC community forms a large chunk of the total voters of the constituency. According to him, the total population of the community is 1.5 lakh. Their number is sufficient to decide the fate of a candidate in the ballot box. Bidhan Bhuiya said political parties should be made to understand that a candidate from their community this time is to be given nomition to contest the election. The preference Bidhan Bhuiya showed is for BJP. He even claimed a wave has been created to favour SC community and he saw a time when it will take the shape of a stronger voice of people. Dr. Rumi th was at the centre of criticism by almost all the speakers for her activities. A serious allegation against her has been to deprive the SC people, to which she herself belongs, of all the benefits. Their areas lack communication, a serious bottleneck in their path of socio-economic development.
This demand of Borkhola SC Community Jagaran Mancha has created a flutter in political circles. The Mancha has planned to propose the me of their candidate to both Congress and BJP. It will be interesting to watch their reactions. Will Congress replace Dr. Rumi th and BJP too follow suit to revise its already decided candidate? This question is now making round in Borkhola. In this convention, it was decided to expand the existing body of Jagaran Mancha. It was further resolved to form booth level committees in all the 21 GPs.
