Bosco Olympics concludes

SILCHAR, Dec 7: Don Bosco Silchar organized their 5 day annual sports event, Bosco Olympics 2015, which began from November 30 and concluded on December 4. The event was organized in the premises of Assam Rifles ground. The chief-guest of the iugural function was Rev. Fr. George Maliekal, the Salesian Provincial. Lt. Col. Upadhyaya, Officiating Commandant, 2 MGAR, and Praveen S V, Assistant Commandant, 2 Workshop, Assam Rifles, were the guests of honour on the occasion. Students from 25 states and 30 different linguistic groups participated in the event. Rev. Fr. George Maliekal unfurled the Bosco Olympic flag as a curtain raiser. He received the salute of the participants who took part in a parade.

The solemn ceremonial olympic flame was carried by the school leaders accompanied by student representatives from Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat and West Bengal symbolizing the unity in diversity of the tion. In his speech, Rev. Fr. George Maliekal said that sports is friendship, sports is health, sports is education and sports is life. Sports brings the world together. The chief-guest left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of all the Bosconians through his motivating speech. After the solemn pledge, the chief-guest declared the enthralling Bosco Olympics open.

The participants were divided in 4 groups of Jimmy, Kalpa, Rafi and Tagore. Many sports events including triathlon, strength lifting, slow and fast cycling along with the marathon race, various track events and field events like square ball, hand ball, foot ball, cricket, kabbadi, kho kho, high jump, long jump and shot put among others was held on the occasion. The excitement and enthusiasm of the Bosconians knew no bounds who participated in all events. Many interesting events were also organized for the teachers.

Rafi House was declared as the overall champion of Bosco Olympics 2015, followed by Kalpa, Jimmy and Tagore houses. The 5 day long Bosco Olympics ended when the Olympics flag was lowered solemnly in the presence of Col. Sudip Bose from 9 Mahar Regiment and Col. D K Singh from 124 Brigade, Assam Rifles. The magement, staff and students expressed their gratefulness to Lt. Col. Swarup Bera and the security force for their excellent arrangement to host the event. The Principal appreciated the staff and students for their active participation in Bosco Olympics.
