FROM A CORRSPONDENT

TAMULPUR, Jan 11: Bodoland Territorial Council chief-cum- Bodoland People’s Front president Hagrama Mohilary said that his party would extend open support to the BJP after Prime Minister rendra Modi announcing package to the BTC during his visit to Kokrajhar on January 19 next.

Addressing a massive gathering at Jamguri of Tamulpur in Baksa district today, Mohilary said, “We will extend open support to BJP after Prime Minister Modi announce package for BTC on December 19.”  The BTC chief said that the BPF will win 14 out of 16 seats in BTAD in the forthcoming Assembly polls.

He claimed that BJP-BPF alliance will form the next Government in Assam.

“The Congress party has no place in BTAD in the current political situation. BJP-BPF combine will form next government in Assam,” Mohilary said.

“We have requested BJP not to file candidates in all 16 seats at BTAD. We, however, will support the BJP candidates outside BTAD,” he added.

The BTC chief claimed that they have introduced welfare schemes which have helped in overall development of the BTC region.

It may be mentioned that the Mohilary-led BPF is a part of the United People’s Front (UPF), which a conglomeration of indigenous people of all autonomous councils of the State, and is all set to play a key role in the forthcoming Assembly election to be held next year.

The UPF was formed in the second week of September with BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary as its president, former chief of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council as its working president , HSDC leader Holiram Terang as vice president and Mising Autonomous Council chief Ronoj Pegu as its general secretary.

Earlier, expressing confidence in the people’s mandate in favour of the party, Mohilary had said that the Congress, AGP, BJP, PCDR and AIUDF have no hold in the BTAD and there is every chance of the BPF winning maximum seats in BTAD.
