Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) pays tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika

Dibrugarh: Staff Welfare Committee of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) paid rich tribute to the legendary musician, lyricist, singer and filmmaker of Assam, Dr Bhupen Hazarika at a function organized on his 7th death anniversary on Monday.

The event was organized in BCPL township here. Senior officials of BCPL lit the traditional earthen lamps and offered floral tribute before the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. A cultural programme was also organized to commemorate the works of Sudhakanta.

Managing Director of BCPL, AK Singh was the chief guest of the evening.

Well-known guitarist and music composer Ratan Choudhury, a close companion of Dr. Hazarika and part of his musical sojourn, graced the occasion as special invitee. Choudhury shared his experiences of working with the Bard and mesmerized the audience with rendition. The event was an amalgamation of performances by BCPL employees and their family members comprising of dance, chorus, solo performances and recitation.

Doomdooma: The seventh death anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed by Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) with lighting of the lamp in front of his portrait by its president Arjun Baruah. It was followed by rendering of number of his immortal songs and presentation of dance items on his various popular songs by the school students under the guidance of musician Nayan Deka.

Deben Deka, secretary, DSSS anchored the programme. The day was also observed by Learners High School, Rupaisiding with lighting of lamp in front of the Sudhakantha's portrait by the Director of the school, Verghese Panjikoran. While Bireswar Chaudhary gave a brief speech on balladeer's life, Paban Sarmah anchored the whole programme.
